Licensing, Insurance & Credentials
>Are you licensed, bonded, and insured to work in California?
Yes. We carry full liability insurance and workers’ compensation coverage for every member of our crew, so you’re protected on your property from start to finish.
>What qualifications does your crew have?
Every crew member completes RT-130 wildland firefighter training at minimum, and our team brings years of hands-on experience in both wildland and structural firefighting. Many also hold advanced qualifications such as Division Supervisor, Strike Team Leader, Engine Boss, and Firing Boss, along with fire behavior certifications including S-190 and S-290.
The Property Assessment
>What does the assessment include, and how long does it take?
Most assessments take about 1 to 1.5 hours, though larger properties can take up to 2. We evaluate your property’s topography, take measurements, and inspect your roof for integrity, including cracks or gaps where embers could get in. We also assess whether retardant application would help, whether an ember suppression system makes sense for your property, and walk you through which products best fit your needs, weighing cost and benefit along the way.
>Do I get a written report with recommendations?
In most cases, yes — you’ll receive a written report with prioritized recommendations. If your property only needs minor corrections, we may provide that guidance directly rather than a full written report.
>Is the assessment free, and does the fee apply toward future work?
The assessment fee is $150. If you decide to move forward with our Ember Out vent installation, that fee is credited toward the cost of installation.
>Do your recommendations follow CAL FIRE’s “Ready for Wildfire” standards?
Yes. We follow CAL FIRE’s home-hardening and defensible-space guidelines (Zones 0, 1, and 2), and we layer in insights from over 25 years of hands-on firefighting experience.
Fire Retardant & Products
>Which fire retardant do you use?
We apply Perimeter Solutions’ Phos-Chek LC20, a long-term fire retardant trusted throughout the industry.
>How long does the retardant last, and how often does it need to be reapplied?
LC20 remains effective for about a year, or until about an inch of rain washes it away (sunlight also breaks it down gradually). Perimeter Solutions recommends reapplying once a year.
>Is it safe for pets, plants, pools, and finished surfaces?
Yes. Its active ingredient, ammonium polyphosphate, is closely related to the phosphorus and nitrogen fertilizers commonly used in agriculture, and it breaks down naturally over time in the same way.
>What certifications do your ember-resistant vents carry?
Our Ember Out vents hold a California State Fire Marshal Building Materials Listing (CAL FIRE BML Listing No. 8165-2214:0100), are compliant with California Building Code Chapter 7A, meet SFM 12-7A-6 / 706A.2.1 ember-resistant vent requirements, and are independently tested to ASTM E2886/E2886M-14 by the Western Fire Center.
Scope, Cost & Guarantees
>Can I get an itemized estimate?
Yes, once we’ve measured your property. Because every home is different in vent count, size, and construction, we’re not able to provide a firm cost estimate until that step is complete.
>Do you offer a warranty?
Yes. Our Ember Out vents come with a 75-year warranty.
>Are there ongoing maintenance or reapplication costs I should budget for?
Vents require little upkeep beyond an occasional light rinse with water. Fire retardant should be reapplied annually, as recommended by Perimeter Solutions.
>Could this work help with home insurance eligibility or discounts?
It depends on your insurer. Some require ember-resistant vents and/or retardant application, while others leave it to the adjuster’s discretion. We’re happy to write documentation and work directly with your insurance company to help support your case.
